"JCNMS: Where the Tradition Begins"

by Coach Deviney

December 12, 2009

The 2009 JCNMS Volleyball season began in August with 22 excited middle school girls, full of energy and anxious to learn the game of volleyball. Shawna Deviney began her third year as head coach, and Beth Wilson as the assistant coach.

We are always amazed at how far the girls come in our short season. Our theme for the year was, “JCNMS – Where the Tradition Begins!” We grew together as a volleyball family and helped support each other throughout the season.

The C-Team is always fun to coach. They are so excited to play and learn more about the game of volleyball. They finished the season with a record of 2-2.

The Junior Varsity girls did an excellent job of stepping up their level of play this year. The team competed mid-season in the Oskaloosa Junior Varsity Tournament under the coaching of Mrs. Jennings and her daughter Kelci, due to the illness of Coach Wilson. They finished the day 5-0, and received 1st place in the tournament. Mrs. Jennings said she enjoyed the day and was happy to start and finish her coaching career with an undefeated record! The JV finished the year with an excellent record of 11-2.

The Varsity Team played a 6-2 offense, where we have 6 hitters and 2 setters. They competed mid-season in the McLouth Varsity Tournament, and played very well. After a long day of play, the team went 5-0 and took first place in the tournament. In league play they finished 2nd in the season to Valley Falls who received first. At the league tournament the team went 3-0 in pool play. The girls played EXCELLENT in the bracket play and received first place. The Varsity Team ended their season with a record of 16-1. They represented JCNMS very well and will be a fun group to watch as they enter high school.

We would like to thank all the parents for their support throughout the season. The girls worked hard and improved greatly in their volleyball skills. We had a fun season and enjoyed getting to know the girls and watch them grow and learn more about the game of volleyball.
